Check-up and Digital Imaging
A six-monthly examination: intraoral check, digital X-ray if needed and a written summary of the day. A record is kept even when nothing is found; the next check-up is compared against it.
DetailsA composite filling replaces the decayed part with a tooth-coloured resin material, placed in layers and set with light. Because the material bonds to the tooth chemically, no extra healthy structure needs to be removed as with old amalgam.
During the visit
- Local anaesthetic if needed
- Removal of decay; the healthy part of the tooth is preserved
- Shade selection and layered filling
- Bite check and polishing
Its limits
If decay has taken most of the tooth or reached the nerve, a filling is not enough; a root canal or a crown is discussed instead. That decision is made with the examination and X-ray.

After treatment
No eating until the anaesthetic wears off (about two hours). The filling is used the same day; cold sensitivity for a few days is normal.
