Check-up and Digital Imaging
A six-monthly examination: intraoral check, digital X-ray if needed and a written summary of the day. A record is kept even when nothing is found; the next check-up is compared against it.
DetailsGum disease has two stages: gingivitis, which affects only the gum, and periodontitis, which reaches the bone that holds the tooth. The first needs cleaning and proper brushing; in the second, tartar and infected tissue below the gum pockets are removed by root surface debridement.
How treatment runs
- Pocket depths measured and recorded
- Deep cleaning area by area under local anaesthetic
- Brushing and interdental cleaning instruction
- Re-measurement after 4–6 weeks; further sessions if needed
Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and irregular care slow the treatment; they are discussed at the first visit.
Afterwards
Periodontal disease is a condition kept under control, not a treatment that "ends". A three- to four-month check-up interval is enough for most patients.

After treatment
Sensitivity and slight bleeding are normal in the first days. Use the recommended brush and interdental brush from day one. Do not skip the follow-up appointment.
