Check-up and Digital Imaging
A six-monthly examination: intraoral check, digital X-ray if needed and a written summary of the day. A record is kept even when nothing is found; the next check-up is compared against it.
DetailsThe number and position of missing teeth, the condition of the remaining ones and the amount of jaw bone decide which prosthesis fits. There are three main routes:
- Bridge: a fixed structure resting on the teeth either side of the gap; the neighbours are crowned.
- Implant-supported prosthesis: the neighbours are left untouched; the number of implants is planned per missing tooth.
- Removable denture: partial or complete, taken in and out; it can also be implant-retained.
The process
Planning with an examination and CT scan, impressions, laboratory try-ins (tooth set-up, colour, bite) and delivery. Try-ins are not skipped: fit and appearance are tested in the mouth several times before delivery.
Getting used to it
With a removable denture, an adjustment period for speech and chewing in the first weeks is normal; sore spots are corrected at the check-up.
