Check-up and Digital Imaging
A six-monthly examination: intraoral check, digital X-ray if needed and a written summary of the day. A record is kept even when nothing is found; the next check-up is compared against it.
DetailsWhitening opens up the colour molecules that have penetrated the enamel with a peroxide-based gel. It changes the tooth's own colour rather than external stains (cleaning takes care of those).
Two routes
- In the clinic: after protecting the gums, a high-concentration gel in one visit under supervision.
- At home: a thin custom tray and a low-concentration gel for 10–14 days, following the dentist's schedule.
Both can be combined; the choice depends on the tooth colour, sensitivity and expectations.
Good to know
Fillings, crowns and veneers do not whiten; if a colour difference appears afterwards they are replaced. A root-treated tooth that has darkened is handled with a separate method (internal bleaching). Temporary sensitivity is normal; not done during pregnancy.

After treatment
Avoid coloured drinks and smoking for 48 hours. Use the recommended toothpaste for sensitivity. How long it lasts depends on care and habits.
